Jackson Lake State Park, Colorado

This is the Colorado state park, not the lake in Wyoming --- it's located about 70 miles NE of Denver just off of I-76. The lake is about twice the size of Chatfield (2,700 acres vs. about 1,500 acres for Chatfield) and has many great camping spots, many with trees. It has nice, sandy beach for swimming, full facilities for camping, and the lake adjacent to the campgrounds is designated as a 'wakeless zone.'

From the Jackson Lake State Park website:

"Once known primarily for the hunting around its banks, Jackson Lake State Park has become one of Colorado's finest outdoor recreation and water sports sites. A wide variety of activities such as boating, waterskiing, fishing and swimming can all be enjoyed on the 2,700 surface-acre lake. The park is also known for its warm-water, with sandy bottom and shore. Jackson Lake also has 260 campsites and 60 picnic sites for your enjoyment."

How to get there

From the U.S. 34/I-76 interchange, take Colorado Highway 39 north for 7.25 miles through Goodrich to T-intersection. Turn left (west) on County Road Y.5 (follow the paved road) for 2.5 miles (it will turn north after a couple of miles). This will take you past the south side and into the main park area on the west.
