Day Paddle Locations

Aurora Reservoir

I-25 to I-225 on the south side of Denver. East 3+ miles on I-225 to Parker Rd exit. South on Parker Rd 2 miles to Quincy Ave. East about 8 miles to Reservoir sign. Turn south, about a mile to reservoir. $4 per car fee for entry.

From the City of Aurora:

"Located just two miles east of Gun Club Road on Quincy Avenue, Aurora Reservoir offers 820-acres of clean water ideal for fishing, swimming, scuba diving, boating, sailboarding and much more. The reservoir is open year-round from dawn to dusk. A park pass is required for park entry. Season passes can be purchased at the General Store located in Marina Village. The General Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

The marina is located in the southwest finger of the reservoir, and furnishes visitors with a ramp, off-shore moorings, dry storage, boat rentals and equipment, general store and food concessions.

Fishing boats with electric motors, rowboats, canoes, sailboats and sailboards can be launched on reservoir waters. Sailors can enjoy the convenience of off-shore moorings and dry boat storage to eliminate the hassles of transporting and rigging. Gasoline powered boats and jet skis are not permitted.

Barr Lake

Located just southeast of Brighton, Barr Lake offers metro paddlers a place to escape most Of the crowds and noise associated with most of the Denver area reservoirs. Barr Lake is 1 ,937 acres in size and half the lake is off limits to all boating, as it is a designated wildlife refuge. Barr Lake serves as a peaceful day paddling destination with great wildlife viewing possibilities. Directions: Take I-76 northeast from Denver, exit on Bromley Lane. Go east to Picadilly Road, then south to the park entrance. Fee for entry. Boating: Only sailboats, hand-propelled craft and boats with electric trolling motors or gasoline motors of 10 horsepower or less are permitted on Barr Lake. A boat ramp is located adjacent to the north parking lot.

Bear Creek Reservoir & Soda Lakes

Directions: 1/8 mile east of Highway C-470 on Morrison Road. Look for Bear Creek Park signs. Soda Lake is first. Fee: $4 per vehicle. Bear Creek: 110 Acres, elevation 5,558 feet.

Boulder Reservoir

Directions: From Highway 36, go north to the Longmont Diagonal (Highway 119) and turn northeast. At Jay Road turn west and then north almost immediately onto 51st street. Fee: $5 adults; $3 13-18; $2.50 4-12; 3 and under free. Boating: Motorboats allowed only with city permit, non-motorized boats need no permit. Water Acres: 540. Elevation: 5,173 feet. We usually meet at the Sailboard Beach (turn-off before the main pavillion).

Chatfield Reservoir

Directions: From Denver, take Wadsworth Blvd. (Colorado Highway 121) south past C-470, and turn left into the Park at the Deer Creek entrance. As an alternate route, take Santa Fe Blvd. south to Titan Road, turn west on Titan Road to Roxborough Park Road, and turn north to the Plum Creek entrance. Water Acres: 1,550. Elevation: 5,430 feet. We usually meet on the south side of lake, near the east end of the marina. Park in the lot near the boat rental beach; Fee for entry.

Lone Tree Reservoir

Hwy I-25 N to state hwy 60 Exit #252. Exit before Loveland. Go west, follow Hwy 60 thru jog one mile north. Stay on Hwy 60, cross Hwy 287. About 3 miles - look for sign. Turn left, south on CR 21. Water Acres: 502. Elevation: 5,131 feet.

Union Reservoir (Calkins Lake)

Directions: From Denver, take I-25 north to Highway 119 (Longmont exit). Go west to County Line Road 1. Go north approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right at the sign. Cross bridge - Turn right to canoe & kayak beach. Fee for entry: $5 per vehicle. Water Acres: 743 Elevation: 4,956 feet
