RMSKC official paddling events are planned by Trip Leaders, cleared by the Trip Coordinator, published in the RMSKC Newsletter and then posted on the website calendar (this page). While anyone may post informal paddles on the forum message board, those are not RMSKC official paddling events and are not covered by the ACA insurance program Only paddling events .published in the RMSKC newsletter are sanctioned club events.
DAY PADDLING
Day paddle events organized by RMSKC at Colorado lakes and reservoirs are open to RMSKC members and guests. We invite guests to attend these events in order to find out about our club. Guests are required to pay the $10 ACA event fee to cover ACA insurance. Contact the Trip Leader through the forums or see the membership information page for details on the benefits of club membership.
MULTI-DAY PADDLING
Multi-day trips organized
by RMSKC are open to RMSKC members and their guests (provided they pay the $10
ACA insurance fee).
Participants are always responsible for their own safety and happiness during
club events. Joining a group does not relieve you of your personal responsibilities.
If you are expecting the Trip Leader to act as would a commercial outfitter
(i.e. cater to your every need and want, teach you how to paddle, be responsible
for your personal safety), then club trips are not for you.
Trip Leaders are not in
any way trained, certified, or pre-qualified by the club so far as their skills
and abilities as kayakers or leaders. They act voluntarily and without
compensation, in the same manner that anyone among a group of acquaintances
might agree to act as leader for a particular activity or trip.
When you paddle with a group
you get a trip planned by the Trip Leader, the opportunity to meet new paddlers,
and safety in numbers. For group trips to be successful, all participants must
look after the welfare of the group and align their personal paddling goals
and expectations with those of the group. Choose your trips accordingly!
